I am currently writing this post nestled under 3 blankets and incredibly fuzzy socks because my heater is NOT WORKING. If any of you are renting, you know how annoying it can be to deal with the stereotypical landlord (like mine), so I’ve been trying to wait this out until is magically kicks back on. Unfortunately, I don’t think my boyfriend can take anymore frozen feet searching for warmth during our recent Netflix binges (Scandal is way too addicting; I highly recommend it), so off to the landlord it is! Ugh.
Let’s talk SKIN. My skin can be my biggest insecurity or my best accessory when it comes to beauty. I feel like when my skin isn’t at its best, EVERYTHING is thrown off. My skin looks its best when I constantly take care of it – day and night, and looks its worst when I’m stressed and lack on my daily/nightly routine. Keeping that in mind, the other weekend I went home and my mom, being the best mom ever, sensed that I was stressed and scheduled me a facial that day (told you, best momma ever). I then went into Woodhouse Day Spa and was greeted with hot tea and a calming atmosphere – I was SO pumped for much needed relaxation and skin time, but things didn’t go quite as planned. My life, people…
My cosmetologist greeted me and led me to the spa room and confirmed the type of facial I was getting – the Organic Facial, which my mom had scheduled for me. She then examined my stressed out face (which had 2 pimples at the time) and assured me that I needed the Acne Facial. “Okay,” I said, “whatever you think I need done.” If you’ve had an acne facial, you know where I’m going with this. First off, my skin looks better than it ever has before, but OH. MY. GOD. – I was basically crying the whole time, gripping the table, while Holly (my cosmetologist) was consoling me and telling me my skin needs it. “Thanks, Holly!” I wanted to rip that damn needle from her hand and walk out. Yes, she was using a needle. Relaxing, right? I came out of the spa not quite looking refreshed, but I did get some great products out of it! The bright side 🙂 Basically, I learned that day to never get an acne facial for relaxation (duh), and that I need one every month.
I came out with a toner and a micro-exfoliator. If you’re going to invest some money in one thing beauty, choose facial products. Take care of your skin! You’ll thank yourself one day. I had always used St.Ives facial scrub to exfoliate until I found out they use bark (terribly bad for your face), which can actually lead to more infection rather than help. BUT it IS great for your body, just too sensitive for the face! Switch to a micro-exfoliator instead, scrubbing 3-5 days a week – the one I have shown below is awesome and can be found at Woodhouse. Toner is also something great to use in the morning and at night to decrease oil and fine lines. Who doesn’t want that? The one listed below can also be found at Woodhouse.

Lastly, to avoid more of those painful (but much needed) facials, I use Peter Thomas Roth’s AMAZING Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask to clear clogged pores, get rid of blackheads, decrease fine lines, and minimize the look of pores. The charcoal is like a freaking magnet. I promise you your face will look like you just applied foundation when you take it off. I leave it on for about 20 minutes, double the time is says. It’s worth it – try it for yourself, here!
